Fresh flare up leaves houses, mosques damaged by shelling

SRINAGAR: There has been a fresh flare up in LoC in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir in the past 24 hours, leaving houses and a local mosque damaged, police and local reports said.

Several residential houses and a mosque were partially damaged as Indo-Pak troops engaged in firing and intense mortar shelling in Dhani, Hajitra areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sectors, police said on Thursday.

According to local media reports from these villages, exchange of firing and shelling between Indo-Pak troops from across the LoC started around 6 P.M and continued intermittently for around four hours causing panic among the residents who rushed to safer places to save their lives, during this course five residential houses and a mosque got partially damaged.

A police officer confirmed to many media outlets that, five residential houses belonging to Altaf Ahmad Tanoli son of Khalil-Ur-Rehman Tanoli, Nazir Ahmad Tanoli son of Abdul Rehman Tanoli, Zahir Ahmad Tanoli son of Sai Tanooli, Nisaar Ahmed Tanooli son of Khalil Rehman and Imtiyaz Ahmad Tanooli son of Hidayatullah Tanooli residents of Sadhpora, and a mosque got partially damaged. Police further said that even as the shelling was very intense, there have been no reports of injuries to civilians in the area.
