Students in Delhi government schools will soon study the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as part of a new educational initiative called ‘Rashtraneeti’. The programme will also include lessons on freedom fighters such as Veer Savarkar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Tuesday.
According to Sood, “The chapter on RSS is being added under this programme to inculcate civic and social consciousness among students and to bring Fundamental Duties into focus.” The Rashtraneeti curriculum aims to promote civic values among future generation and to make responsible citizenship, ethical leadership, and national pride among students from Class 1 to Class 12.
The curriculum will introduce students to:
The origin and history of the RSS
Its ideology and guiding principles
Roles played by RSS volunteers during natural disasters
Its participation in the freedom struggle, according to officials

The course will also seek to clarify misconceptions about the organization. Some of the contributions that will be highlighted include:
RSS involvement in India’s independence movement
Social services such as blood donation camps and food distribution
Rescue operations during disasters like the Kedarnath tragedy and Bihar floods
Relief efforts carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic
The chapter will outline the foundation of the RSS in 1925 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. Students will be introduced to the organisation’s emphasis on discipline, cultural values, service, and social responsibility.
It will also mention influential personalities associated with the RSS, such as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Additionally, another section will focus on unsung heroes, including Veer Savarkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Teacher handbooks have reportedly been prepared, and training sessions are being conducted at SCERT. However, decisions on which grades will receive specific chapters are still being finalised.
A source said, “This course is being introduced across all classes to give students practical exposure to governance, democracy and active citizenship.”
The Rashtraneeti programme was formally launched by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on September 18 during the ‘Namo Vidya Utsav’ held at Bharat Mandapam. It was one of three new curricula unveiled at the event.
