The National Testing Agency (NTA) will reconduct the UGC-NET June 2026 examination for three subjects after finding multiple factual, typographical and translation errors in the question papers.
The agency said it received several complaints regarding multiple errors in the English, Commerce and Sociology papers and subsequently constituted a committee to examine the complaints.
“The committee found that the three papers had several factual, typographical and translation errors, including misspelt names of prominent scholars, garbled book titles, errors in the wording of questions, grammatical errors, gender and number agreement errors, punctuation mistakes and non-standard coined terms for established concepts,” said the NTA in a statement on Sunday.
According to the NTA, the committee also found that a significant number of questions had been repeated from previous examinations. It recommended that the three papers be reconducted in the interest of conducting a fair and error-free examination.
The NTA said the defects were of such an extent that they could not be addressed merely by dropping questions after the challenge process.
“Papers carrying such defects do not meet the standards of fairness and error-free examination,” the NTA said. The agency added that “defects of this extent cannot be cured merely by dropping questions after the challenge process.”
The re-examination for English and commerce will be held on September 9, while the Sociology paper will be held on September 10.
The NTA conducted the UGC-NET June 2026 examination from June 22 to 30 across 87 subjects for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), eligibility for Assistant Professor and admission to PhD programmes.
*Results for 84 subjects to be declared as scheduled*
NTA said results for the remaining 84 subjects, for which the answer key challenge was issued earlier, will be declared as per schedule.
The allocation of JRF seats and issuance of e-certificates for eligibility for Assistant Professor and admission to PhD programmes for these 84 subjects will not be delayed due to the re-conduct of the three papers, the agency said.
