NEET UG 2025 Counselling Extended: Choice Filling Now Open Until August 7
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released an updated schedule for the first round of NEET UG Counselling 2025. The decision follows several requests from NRI and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates, as well as ongoing legal actions. A request for more time resulted from an earlier halt in the choice filling and locking process. MCC has now addressed these concerns by adjusting the timeline for registration, choice filling, and seat allotment.
Under the new plan, Round 1 registration will stay open until 3 PM on August 6. Candidates can use the RESET registration option until 12 noon the same day. Payment for registration can be made until 6 PM on August 6.
The choice filling window now extends until 8 AM on August 7, while choice locking can be done from 8 PM on August 6 to 8 AM on August 7. MCC will process the seat allotment on August 7 and 8, and the Round 1 result will be announced on August 9. Between August 9 and August 18, the chosen students are required to report to their respective institutions.

At the beginning, the therapy procedure had a stricter schedule. After choice submission and locking were completed by August 4, it was anticipated that seat allocation results would be made public by August 5. The deadline, however, proved difficult for a number of groups, especially PwBD contenders.
It was challenging for many of them to quickly acquire the required disability certifications from the relevant centres. To meet the paperwork deadline, they requested an extension. MCC responded by temporarily stopping the choice filling process and then releasing the updated schedule.
This revised schedule draws attention to a more significant issue: the current system does not adequately accommodate students from special categories. For NRI applicants, filing documents across borders can be logistically challenging. PwBD candidates encounter delays at certification centres as a result of inadequate communication and a shortage of appointments.
This is not the first year such concerns have emerged. Many students, especially those with disabilities, report that they feel sidelined by a rigid and tech-heavy counselling process that fails to account for real-life hurdles. Despite NEET's goal of providing equal access to medical education, counselling timelines often ignore the time needed for paperwork, travel, and medical verification.

In a parallel move, MCC has instructed all participating institutions to review their listed seat vacancies. These include central universities, AIIMS, deemed universities, and BSc nursing colleges. This step guarantees that the final allocations are based on current and correct data.
All applicants should pay close attention to the updates on the official MCC website, mcc.nic.in. Delays in responding to changes may affect seat distribution or reporting deadlines. Students should double-check their data and make sure their certificates are available before the deadlines.
