Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan praises new education policy as a model for emerging economies

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan asserted on Friday that India’s New Education Policy (NEP 2020) could serve as a blueprint for emerging economies in formulating comprehensive strategies for human resource development. Speaking at the 2nd Voice of the Global South Summit, Pradhan emphasised the transformative reforms introduced by NEP 2020 in the Indian educational landscape.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is implementing the aspirational National Education Policy 2020, which has brought transformative reforms to our educational ecosystem. Built on five foundational pillars of access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability,” stated Pradhan.

He underscored that NEP 2020 aspires to create an educational system rooted in Indian ethos while aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Pradhan urged nations to collaborate on shared aspirations and formulate strategies focusing on education and skill development.

“NEP 2020 can act as a template for emerging economies towards developing comprehensive strategies for human resource development,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated DAKSHIN, a global centre for excellence for the Global South countries, during the Second Voice of the Global South Summit. The summit, held in virtual mode, aims to share key outcomes from various G20 meetings during India’s presidency.
