New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced a major relief for economically weaker families of the National Capital from the effects of growing household expenses especially during festive Period. Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday passed a welfare scheme to provide Rs 853, the cost of an LPG cylinder on Holi and Diwali, directly to eligible beneficiaries through a direct benefit transfer systemAnnouncing the Decision, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that this scheme is part of the Delhi Government’s policy of targeted, transparent and accountable welfare. CM stated that the prescribed amount for the cylinders will be provided through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the Aadhaar-seeded bank account of the head of the family. According to the government, all ration card holding families in Delhi will be eligible, Importantly, the benefit will apply equally to households using LPG as well as those using PNG for cooking.
The government has allocated Rs 242 crore for this free gas cylinder scheme, the chief minister added. The LPG assistance scheme was a key promise made by the Bharatiya Janata Party in its Sankalp Patra during the Delhi Assembly elections. With the Cabinet’s approval, the government has sought to project the move as fulfilment of a major electoral commitment.
