Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday hailed the BJP–Shiv Sena-led Mahayuti’s sweeping victory in the Maharashtra civic polls, calling it a strong endorsement of the development and welfare agenda of the NDA government led by Narendra Modi.
The Mahayuti registered decisive wins in several key municipal corporations, including Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Dhule, Panvel, Jalgaon, Sangli–Miraj–Kupwad and Jalna, while also touching the majority mark in emerging trends of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Counting was underway across 29 municipal corporations in the state.
In a post on X, Shah said the results reflected people’s “unwavering faith” in the NDA’s development policies and described the outcome as a historic mandate for the Mahayuti government’s work in Maharashtra. He congratulated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP state president Ravindra Chavan and party workers.
Seat tallies underlined the alliance’s dominance. In Navi Mumbai, the BJP won 65 seats and Shiv Sena 43 of 111. In Ulhasnagar, the BJP secured 37 seats while the Shinde-led Sena won 36 of 78. The BJP achieved single-handed majorities for the alliance in Panvel (55 of 78) and Dhule (50 of 74). In Jalgaon, the BJP won 46 seats and Sena 22 of 75. In Sangli–Miraj–Kupwad, the BJP crossed the majority mark with 39 of 78 seats, while in Jalna the BJP–Sena combine won 53 of 65.
Results were mixed elsewhere. In Bhivandi–Nizampur and Malegaon, no party secured a majority, while in Ahilyanagar the Ajit Pawar-led NCP emerged ahead with 27 seats.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi thanked voters, saying the NDA’s pro-people governance and vision for development had “struck a chord” across Maharashtra. Chief Minister Fadnavis said the Mahayuti would form mayors in 25 of the 29 municipal corporations.
