Jammu: The ninth day of the ongoing Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed uproar on Wednesday as all BJP MLAs staged a walkout, demanding an apology from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over an alleged remark made inside the House a day earlier.

The protest erupted after BJP legislators objected to the Chief Minister’s reported use of the phrase “Inko juute padee” during proceedings on Tuesday. Terming the remark as inappropriate and unbecoming of the dignity of the Assembly, the BJP members said such language undermines the decorum of the House.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, BJP MLAs rose to raise the issue and pressed for a formal apology from the Chief Minister. Amid noisy scenes and heated exchanges, the party legislators walked out in protest, asserting that they would not tolerate statements that, according to them, lower the standards of legislative debate.

Despite the commotion, the proceedings of the House continued.
