HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a blistering attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of lacking the courage to act against the KCR family despite what he called “clear and concrete evidence” in the phone tapping case.
Addressing the media in Karimnagar, Bandi Sanjay alleged that the Revanth Reddy-led government was deliberately prolonging the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe to facilitate political compromises and financial settlements. He claimed the investigation had turned into a “never-ending television serial” with no real outcome, despite police already possessing documentary evidence and witness statements confirming illegal phone tapping.
He questioned why members of the KCR family, whom he described as the principal accused, were still being shielded from arrest. “Police themselves showed me evidence during my inquiry. Even phones of judges were allegedly tapped. If this does not warrant arrests, what will?” he asked. The Union Minister alleged that a war room was operated in Sircilla to conduct systematic phone tapping during the previous BRS regime. He claimed phones of political leaders, businessmen, film actors and even judges were placed under surveillance to intimidate them and extract money. He further alleged that real estate developers and industrialists were forced to purchase electoral bonds for the BRS party under pressure.
Bandi Sanjay said the SIT officers were professional and capable but were being denied operational freedom due to interference from influential figures in the government. “At the very least, allow the SIT to function independently. Any pressure or intimidation will derail the probe,” he warned.
Criticising Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, he said the Congress government lacked political will and spine. “This government is indulging in compromise politics. If we were in power, the KCR family would have been taught a decisive lesson,” he asserted. He also recalled alleged excesses against BJP workers during the previous regime, stating that visuals of party workers being assaulted and harassed were still etched in memory. Bandi Sanjay demanded immediate arrests in the phone tapping case, warning that continued inaction would erode public trust. He added that if the Congress government admitted its inability to act and sought a CBI inquiry, the Centre was ready to take appropriate action.
