Amid 61k new Covid cases, India’s recovery rate rises to 88%

Amid 61k new Covid cases, India’s recovery rate rises to 88%

The Covid-19 recovery rate in India has improved further, now standing at 88.03%. According to the health ministry, as many as 22 states and union territories, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, have less than 20,000 active cases.

 However, India reported 61,871 new Covid-19 cases and 1,033 deaths in the last 24 hours. The country’s current tally of 74,94,552 cases includes 7,83,311 active cases, 65,97,210 recoveries and 1,14,031 deaths. The worst-affected state of Maharashtra reported a single-day rise of 9,060 coronavirus-positive cases, taking its Covid-19 tally to 15,95,381 cases. The death of 150 patients pushed the number of Covid casualties to 42,115. But, as many as 11,204 patients were discharged during the day, and the state›s recovery count went up to 13,69,810. There are 1,82,973 active cases in the state now. 

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 28 more fatalities, taking the Covid-19 death toll past the 6,000-mark, while 3,299 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to over 3.31 lakhs. The infection tally in the national capital stands at 3,31,017, including 3,01,716 patients who have recovered.  The number of active cases in the capital stands at 23,292.

 No coronavirus-related fatality was reported in Haryana during the past 24 hours even though the state reported 952 fresh cases. The death toll in the state stood at 1,640, but with 952 fresh cases, the infection tally in the state rose to 1,50,033. At present, there are 10,042 active cases, the recovery rate is 92.21%, and the fatality rate is 1.09%. Meanwhile, the neighbouring state of Punjab reported 476 new Covid-19 cases, 958 discharged cases and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total positive cases to 1,27,630, including 1,17,883 discharges, 5,735 active cases and 4,012 deaths. 

Odisha›s Covid-19 tally mounted to 2,68,364 as 2,019 more people tested positive for the infection. As many as 1,168 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 851 infections were detected during contact tracing. 14 fresh fatalities pushed the coastal state›s coronavirus death toll to 1,135. In West Bengal, the coronavirus death toll topped the 6,000-mark with 64 more fatalities. The highest singleday spike of 3,983 cases pushed tally to 3,21,036 cases in the state. 

Gujarat reported 1,091 new Covid-19 cases, 9 deaths and 1,279 recoveries in the last 24 hours. Total cases now stand at 1,59,726 including 1,41,652 recoveries, 14,436 active cases and 3,638 deaths.

 Andhra Pradesh reported 3,986 cases of coronavirus, taking its overall tally to 7.83 lakhs. The total recoveries increased to 7.40 lakh after 4,591 were cured in the last 24 hours. The state also reported 23 Covid-19 deaths, the lowest in a day in more than four months. The total death toll in the state is now 6,429. 

Karnataka reported 7,012 new Covid-19 cases, 8,344 discharges, and 51 deaths in the past 24 hours. The total cases in the state rose to 7,65,586, including 1,09,264 active cases, 6,45,825 discharges and 10,478 deaths. 

Tamil Nadu also reported 3,914 new Covid-19 cases, 4,929 recovered cases and 56 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 6,87,400 till date, including 6,37,637 recoveries, 39,121 active cases and 10,642 deaths.
