Nepal Member of Parliament, Chandra Bhandari and his mother Harikala Bhandari sustained critical burns in an LPG gas leakage induced blast. Although, Bhandari’s mother, Harikala succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, 16 February 2023 at the Kirtipur Burns Hospital, Nepal, where the MP and her mother were undergoing treatment.

According to a statement released by the Kirtipur Hospital, the MP is presently hospitalized in a critical condition and will soon be airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment.

Bhandari had sustained 25 percent burns and his mother received 80 percent of burns, the hospital’s statement reads. The two got into an accident on Wednesday after a cooking gas cylinder exploded at their home in Buddhanagar, Kathmandu at around 10:30 pm (local time).

Meanwhile, the secretary of Bhandari, Bhuwan Bhusal, said that the LPG gas cylinder exploded when the family was sleeping.

Earlier in a statement, the hospital said that the two needs to be taken to a hospital which is specialized in burns outside the nation as treatment in Nepal is not possible.
