In a significant development related to the NEET-UG 2024 matter, the Supreme Court declined to cancel the examination National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test.

The apex court has entertained a batch of pleas, which was demanding re-examination of this medical test on the account of paper leak and malpractices.

But the bench consisting of CJI DY Chandrachud, JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra issued the order, which held that the tests were conducted on May 5. The Results were announced on June 4.

As per apex court, the re-examination will result in drastic consequences, that can impact 23 lakh students and will gravely affect the academic schedule.

Decoding the Reason Why SC Said No To NEET-UG 2024 Re-examination

  1. According to supreme court, no data reflects systematic leak of question papers and other associated malpractices.

Talking about this point, CJI DY Chandrachud said ‘There is the absence of material to conclude that the result of the NEET-UG 2024 exam is vitiated or there is a systemic breach.’

But the court did say, that the question was leaked at Hazaribagh & Patna.

2. Second, after probe transfer, the CBI had lodged the status report The revelation made by CBI reveal, that the probe is still ongoing. But as per the investigation, around 155 students from Hazaribagh & Patna’s exam centres were hugely benefited from the scam.

3. Currently, there is no material on the record which implies that there is sanctity of examination system is tainted or the outcome of the exam stand vitated.

4. Moreover, the court is also aware of the fact that the conduct of NEET-UG 2024 retest will result in drastic consequences for the students. The following consequences will include interruption in admission schedule, ripple effects in medical education course. It also affects availability of qualified doctors in the future.

5. Lastly, a serious disadvantage will caused to marginalized students for whom seats have been reserved.

In addition, the supreme court has also announced that counseling and admission procedure for NEET-UG 2024 shall continue. In future, the top court will issue guidelines related to future conduct for upcoming exams.
