The BJP obtained just 240 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, falling 32 seats shy of a straightforward majority. On the other hand, the INDIA bloc surpassed expectations by securing over 230 seats, contrary to poll forecasts that anticipated a performance similar to 2014 and 2019. Consequently, the BJP had to depend on allies like Nitish Kumar, N Chandrababu Naidu, and Eknath Shinde to form the government.
The TDP, JD(U), Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, and LJP led by Chirag Paswan (Ram Vilas) secured 16, 12, 7, and 5 seats, respectively, underlining their pivotal role in shaping the upcoming government.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, renowned for his political flexibility, also participated in the NDA meeting held at Prime Minister Modi’s residence. Similarly, the INDIA bloc was also present there. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, whose DMK won 22 seats, traveled to the national capital for this meeting.
