NCP MLA Rohit Pawar, aligned with the Sharad Pawar-led faction, along with fellow party leaders, embarked on a symbolic hunger strike in protest of the Maharashtra government’s decision to hire staff on a contract basis within its various departments. Pawar, who represents the Karjat-Jamkhed assembly constituency in Ahmednagar district, joined NCP’s Pune city unit president Prashant Jagtap and other leaders for the hunger strike at Mahatma Phule Wada in the Ganj Peth area.
Pawar stated, “We are holding a one-day symbolic hunger strike here to protest the contractual recruitment being done by the state government in its various departments.”
He expressed concerns about the recruitment process, emphasizing that more than 75,000 positions would be filled at reduced wages, resulting in meager salaries for the candidates after PF deductions. Pawar also criticized the enrichment of contractors providing manpower in this contractual recruitment process.
In addition to his opposition to the recruitment process, Pawar called for the introduction of a law similar to the one enacted by the Rajasthan government to address exam paper leaks. Pointing out alleged irregularities in the recruitment of ‘talathis,’ he urged the formation of an independent committee to investigate any malpractice.
