Watch: S Jaishankar Warns, Middle East War Is Not “Opportunity But A Globalized Problem”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has voiced significant concerns regarding the escalating conflicts in the Middle East, emphasizing that the region is not an opportunity but rather a source of deep worry. As the conflict is escalating between Iran and Israel with Beirut becoming another new war zone. He highlighted the recent cycle of violence, starting with a terrorist attack and escalating responses, particularly in Gaza, which have now extended to exchanges between Israel and Iran in Lebanon.

Jaishankar noted the broader implications of the conflicts, stating, “The Houthis are firing on the Red Sea. This is actually costing us. Conflicts can be opportunistically used, but in a globalized world, conflict anywhere creates problems everywhere.” He stressed that disruptions in one region can have far-reaching effects, impacting global supply chains.

He pointed out that the ongoing tensions in both the Middle East and Ukraine are significant factors contributing to global instability. “These are big factors of instability, big factors of concern,” he said, reflecting a shared worry among nations about the ramifications of these conflicts.
