War of words between AAP, BJP over Kejriwal’s Rs 45 crore home renovation

The BJP on Wednesday alleged that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spent more than Rs 45 crore on repairing his home, accusing him of excessive hypocrisy and drawing vehement rebuttals involving videos of crumbling ceilings by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had broken his campaign commitment to maintain sincerity and straightforwardness. He referred to him as a “Maharaja,” or monarch, and claimed that he possessed a “lust for luxury and comfort.”

Without providing any proof, Mr Patra further claimed that Kejriwal offered media houses between Rs 20 crore to hide the story, but they had turned down his offer.

He highlighted that Kejriwal’s house had been fitted with expensive Vietnamese marble and pre-built wooden walls, and lakh of rupees were spent hanging the curtains in Mr Kejriwal’s home. According to him, just one curtain costs more than Rs 7.94 lakh.

At a press conference, Mr Patra stated, “This is the tale of a shameless king.

Earlier, he had stated that he would be happy with a four- or five-room home and did not require a larger one. But Kejriwal has been living in a flashy home and taking advantage of other amenities at taxpayer expense, Para said.

Mr Patra advised Mr Kejriwal to address media persons and answer questions regarding his lavish residence’s renovation in the same way that AAP leaders demanded information about the educational qualifications of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kejriwal has not responded to the allegations.
