Uttarakhand: 284 people rescued so far from 42 disaster-affected places

So far this month, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has rescued over 280 people from 42 impacted locations throughout Uttarakhand, according to a senior officer.

“The SDRF has been deployed in 42 disaster-affected areas throughout Uttarakhand.” SDRF has undertaken 36 rescue operations this month, rescuing and transporting 284 persons, according to SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra. Notably, significant rainfall in the state has caused multiple landslides, which have closed roads and highways and stranded hundreds of people.

A landslide blocked the Balwakot-Dharchula road in Dharchula near the Pithoragarh district boundary on Sunday, according to a senior official.

On Saturday, the Yamunotri Highway number 123 was closed due to fallen debris near Chami hamlet in the Pauri Tehsil of the Garhwal District. According to officials, scores of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is continuing flood rescue operations in flood-affected areas of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Delhi, where torrential rains and the release of water from barrages have resulted in unprecedented floods, according to an official statement issued late Friday evening.
In conjunction with state administrations, 58 NDRF teams have been dispatched in flood-affected states for rescue and relief activities.

The NDRF has 16 teams in Delhi, 11 teams in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and 10 teams in Punjab and Haryana.
