Jabalpur: Samarth Singh, husband of Twisha Sharma, who was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, reached the Jabalpur court on Friday to surrender in the case.

According to his advocate, Saurabh Sunder, Samarth Singh arrived at the Jabalpur court and an application was being moved before the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

However, advocate Anurag Srivastava, representing the victim’s side, said the accused should have surrendered either before the trial court or the investigating officer in Bhopal.

“The trial court is in Bhopal and the investigating officer is also in Bhopal. If he wants to surrender, he should do it before the trial court or the investigating officer,” Srivastava said.

The development came hours after the Madhya Pradesh High Court issued notice on petitions filed by the State government and Twisha Sharma’s father challenging the anticipatory bail granted by a lower court to Giribala Singh, Twisha’s mother-in-law.

Advocate Ankur Pandey, counsel for Twisha’s family, said the High Court heard two petitions opposing Giribala Singh’s bail and fixed the next hearing for May 25.

“In this matter, a total of four petitions were filed in the High Court. One was filed by the government, challenging the bail granted to Giribala Singh by the lower sessions court. The victim’s father also filed a petition challenging the same bail order. Hearing both petitions today, the High Court issued notice and scheduled the next hearing for May 25,” Pandey told ANI.

He said arguments on why Giribala Singh’s bail should not be cancelled, including the grounds of challenge and alleged legal deficiencies, would be heard on May 25.

Pandey also said the High Court had allowed a second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma. The family had approached the High Court two days after a lower court rejected their plea for a fresh autopsy.

The court directed the Director of AIIMS Delhi to constitute a medical board and send a team of experts to AIIMS Bhopal, where Twisha’s body is currently kept, to conduct the second post-mortem.

“Although there was an initial discussion about transferring the body to Delhi, it was not deemed convenient. Therefore, with everyone’s consent, directions have been issued to the Director of AIIMS Delhi to constitute a body of experts at the earliest. The expert doctors from Delhi will travel to Bhopal and conduct the second post-mortem at AIIMS Bhopal,” Pandey said.

Pandey further said Samarth Singh, who had been evading arrest since May 12, had earlier withdrawn his bail application from the High Court, stating that he would surrender either before the investigating agency or the court.

Earlier in the day, the Madhya Pradesh government recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into Twisha Sharma’s death and granted consent for the agency to take over the investigation.

Twisha, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death on May 12, her family alleged mental torture and dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws. Police registered a case and formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter.
