The Tripura High Court has received confirmation from the State Election Commission that the long-awaited village committee elections will finally take place in December. This development comes after a series of legal challenges and court interventions that have delayed the electoral process.
State Election Commissioner Sardindu Choudhary acknowledged the previous court cases surrounding the Village Councils election, stating that all these cases have now been resolved. He mentioned that the commission needs around four months after the completion of the panchayat election to organize the village committee election, a timeline that the court has also agreed upon.
Previously, the High Court had intervened in the election proceedings, leading to delays and legal proceedings related to contempt of court. However, with a clear directive from the High Court, the State Election Commission has announced the December schedule for the village committee elections.
The preparation phase for these elections is set to commence post-July, with tasks such as finalizing voter lists and boundaries expected to be completed by August.
