Senior officials neglect illegal construction

Illegal builders have started a dirty business of getting the maps of bungalows passed from the city council and building 8 to 10 rooms in them and renting them out. The complicity of the city council officers cannot be denied because whenever any illegal construction starts, people lodge a complaint regarding the illegal construction in the city council. By the time the construction reaches the letter, at least three to four complaints reach the officers regarding it but the complaint of illegal construction becomes a boon for the officers because the city council comes to know about illegal construction only through complaints. But after that another game starts. People are alleging that when a complaint is made regarding any construction, the city council team comes to the spot and meets the illegal builder and goes back and if the builder is not on the spot, his phone number is taken and he is contacted.
After contacting, the construction starts again but the complainant keeps on giving complaints and by then the construction is completed. People say that Girish Verma, who was the executive officer in Zirakpur some time ago, has also been to jail on charges of corruption because he had amassed property worth crores of rupees in his and his family members’ names. According to people, now it seems that the same game is going on in Zirakpur Municipal Council which was going on during the time of Executive Officer Girish Verma.

In Zirakpur city, many such constructions can be seen at Dhakoli, Peer Muchhalla, Lohgarh and VIP Road, whose map is that of a house, and in it, more rooms than the map are constructed and given on rent, and the people who come as tenants in these rooms are not even police verified by the landlord, due to which day-by-day increase in crime is seen in the city.

We are building 15 to 20 PGs on VIP Road

15 to 20 such PGs are being built on VIP Road in Zirakpur in which 8 to 10 rooms are being built on three floors. People allege that the maps of most of these buildings have not even been approved. The maps of the buildings that have been approved are maps of bungalows and not PGs. People say that we had given complaints regarding this to the Municipal Council officials 15 days ago but no action is being taken by the officials. Due to which it seems that now these buildings are being constructed by the Municipal Council officials themselves. The collusion of the Municipal Council officials becomes clear from the fact that even after so many days of the complaint, the Municipal Council has not even issued a notice to the builders of these PGs.

Officers do not answer the complainant’s phone

The officials do not answer the calls of any person complaining about illegal construction. Whenever any complainant calls the Nagar Parishad officials to inquire about his complaint then the officials give a readymade reply that they are in a meeting and will talk later. People allege that if the officials sit in the office and hold so many meetings then the city should have the same amount of development but development is not visible anywhere in the city. If development is visible then it is only and only illegal construction.

Nagar Council officials seem helpless and powerless to stop it. People say that if they cannot stop illegal construction in the city then why are these officials sitting in the Nagar Council being given salary.
