Rajya Sabha To Debate Union and Jammu & Kashmir Budgets for 2024-25 Today

Today, the Rajya Sabha will conduct a thorough debate on the Union Budget and the Jammu and Kashmir Budget for 2024-25, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23. This session is crucial for determining the financial trajectory for both the nation and the Union Territory.

The Union Budget outlines the government’s financial strategy for the next year, while the Jammu and Kashmir Budget addresses regional developmental needs. The discussion is slated to start in the afternoon, as per the Rajya Sabha’s agenda.

Key presentations will be made by Jayant Chaudhary (Ministry of Education), Pankaj Chaudhary (Ministry of Finance), Nityanand Rai (Ministry of Home Affairs), and Sukanta Majumdar (Ministry of Education). Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody will present various Public Accounts Committee reports on topics such as school toilets, Ganga rejuvenation, and service tax/GST issues.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju will propose motions for elections and nominations to committees on welfare, public accounts, and public undertakings.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s presentation of the Union Budget 2024-25 is notable as her seventh consecutive budget, surpassing former Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s record. The budget aims to boost agricultural productivity, create jobs, and enhance skill development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the budget for its widespread benefits and potential economic growth. Home Minister Amit Shah called it transformative, capable of leveraging the youth for economic advancement. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal described it as a visionary plan for comprehensive growth, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted its focus on employment and small business development.
