New Delhi: Ahead of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Rajasthan’s Kota for student convention over paper leaks, former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday said that the NEET paper leak has shattered the public trust and also questioned the BJP that why a message is being sent in the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s parliamentary constituency that no one should attend the event.

Speaking to the media at his residence in Jaipur, Gehlot asked, “Look, the program that Rahul Gandhi has given is supported by all the youth because finally someone is raising their voice. That is why he started from Kota, which has become a hub for IIT exams and coaching. Now, another suicide happened yesterday, I think it is the second or third one. How many suicides must have occurred across the country? The government doesn’t care at all. So, a very serious situation has arisen.”

He also said that the way paper leaks have happened one after another, in both the SSC and NEET, public trust has completely shattered.

“You can understand what a massive issue this has become for the country,” the Congress leader said.

He also said that it was unfortunate that the Centre failed to act despite the growing calls demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister Dharamendra Pradhan.

“To send a message regarding this, the Education Minister’s resignation was demanded, but they (government) were unable to secure it. In a democracy, the primary principle is that when public opinion demands something, some action is taken based on it. They (government) don’t even do that; this is the misfortune of the country,” he said.

He also questioned the BJP and asked why a message being sent in the Lok Sabha Speaker’s constituency that no one should attend Rahul Gandhi’s event.

The former Chief Minister said that Rahul Gandhi is coming to the Speaker’s parliamentary constituency Kota.

“He should be welcomed, because he is the Leader of the Opposition of the very House over which the Speaker presides is visiting the area. Far from extending a welcome, a message has been conveyed as if Om Birla is opposed to the visit and that no one should attend,” Gehlot said,.adding, “He (Birla) should clarify his position on why such a situation has arisen. At whose behest did all this happen?”

Gehlot said that Rahul Gandhi’s campaign in the country is beginning from Kota, Rajasthan.

“He (Rahul Gandhi) is arriving by train. At the same time, coaching institutes are being threatened that their institutions have several shortcomings and that they should be prepared to face the consequences. If such a situation is created in the Speaker’s own Lok Sabha constituency, what message will it send across the country? Can this really be called a democracy?” the Congress.leader asked.

He then said that he had also posted about this issue yesterday on X.

“It does not befit the Speaker to create a situation that instills fear in people’s minds about what might happen to their institutions. This is not a good thing,” he added.

The former Congress chief is all set to kick start his students convention from Kota on Wednesday over the alleged NEET and other paper leak issue and to interact with the students.

The Congress has planned four student conventions beginning from Kota on June 17. Rahul Gandhi will be addressing three more student conventions in Uttar Pradesh Prayagraj on July 10, Bihar’s Patna on July 12 and in Delhi on July 14.
