Jammu Temple Vandalism: Suspect Arrested, Alleges Provocation by Black Magic Practices

A temple near Jammu was vandalized, and police swiftly arrested the alleged perpetrator, who confessed to the act. According to Jammu (rural) Superintendent of Police Brijesh Sharma, the man, identified as Arjun Sharma, claimed he committed the vandalism and arson due to his frustration over alleged black magic practices within the community at the temple.

The arrest, made shortly after the incident, prevented potential unrest over the matter. This incident follows another recent vandalism at a place of worship in Reasi district on June 30, where police questioned 43 suspects. An FIR was filed at Nagrota Police Station after idols were desecrated and mats set on fire at the Narain Khoo area temple late Saturday night.

The police, aided by forensic experts and sniffer dogs, swiftly apprehended four suspects based on CCTV footage and investigation.SP Sharma emphasized that Arun Sharma acted alone, motivated by personal grievances and a dispute with the village ‘numbardar’.

He urged caution in drawing conclusions on social media, stressing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Devender Singh Rana, former MLA of Nagrota, commended the police and civil administration for their prompt response and handling of the situation.
