The Energy Minister of Rajasthan, Hiralal Nagar, has instructed all officers and staff of the Electricity Department to guarantee a continuous power supply throughout the state in light of the increasing demand for electricity brought on by heatwaves. He underlined the necessity of having enough electricity to satisfy the growing demand and of quickly resolving any outages. Officials were also told to make sure that departments were working together and to keep a close eye on efforts to resolve power outages during the summer. In order to guarantee a steady power supply during peak hours, some precautions must be taken.
Speaking to ANI, Nagar explained the reasons behind the inconveniences and outages. He highlighted efforts to meet additional demands, noting that a previously non-operational 1500 MW power plant would soon become functional. Nagar stated, “In view of the rising electricity demand, we have cancelled leaves and instructed officials not to leave the headquarters without prior notice to meet the demands and ensure smooth power supply. We have informed them regarding the need to ensure uninterrupted power supply over the state, especially in rural areas.” He added that the electricity demand has surged by 20% due to severe heatwaves and soaring temperatures.
“We are monitoring the situation continuously. To meet the adequate demands, we are purchasing electricity from other states and in upcoming days we are reopening our power plant with a capacity of generating 1500 MW,” Nagar told ANI.
Taking a swipe at the previous administration, Nagar said, “Due to the negligence towards the energy sector by the previous Ashok Gehlot government, the common man is facing hardships today. But our government is making continuous efforts and improvements in this sector to provide relief to the residents.”
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma instructed Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Power Distribution Corporation officials to ensure an uninterrupted power supply and regular drinking water. He directed that helpline numbers be widely circulated and that all complaints be resolved promptly and within a specific timeframe. Control rooms were also to be established and monitored at district and state levels.
The Public Health Engineering Department has set up a control room to address all drinking water-related issues. Complaints can be registered at 0141-2222585. Power complaints can be lodged via helpline numbers operated by various discoms or on the BijliMitra app.
