President Droupadi Murmu has honored Havildar Varinder Singh of the Sikh Regiment in the Indian Army with the Vishisht Seva Medal for his creation of a ‘Multipurpose Octocopter,’ an official announced.
Singh’s invention, the ‘Multipurpose Octocopter,’ is a versatile drone capable of conducting surveillance operations and executing tasks such as grenade dropping, engaging aerial targets with weapons like the AK-47, and handling logistics operations.
Singh expressed confidence that the ‘Multipurpose Octocopter’ would greatly benefit the Indian Army, stating, “This is also a weapon drone, with the help of a four-hand grenade MGM rifle, the enemy can be killed with pinpoint accuracy, which will prove to be a boon for the Indian Army.”
Indian Army officials highlighted Singh’s achievement, stating, “Havildar Varinder Singh from the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army has developed a ‘Multipurpose Octocopter’ which can not only undertake surveillance operations but can also be used for other tasks like dropping of grenades, aerial engagement of targets by firing weapons like AK-47, and logistics operations. For his achievements, Havildar Varindar Singh has been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India this year.”
The Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) is a prestigious decoration of the Indian Armed Forces, awarded to personnel at various levels for distinguished service of a high order. The medal, made of bronze, features a golden ribbon with three dark blue stripes. Instituted on January 26, 1960, as VSM Class-III, it was later renamed on January 27, 1967, with the provision for posthumous conferment.
