Haryana Assembly Elections 2024: Anil Vij Sings Rafi Classic Amidst BJP’s Anticipated Victory: WATCH

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heads toward a significant victory in Haryana, senior leader Anil Vij, despite trailing in his constituency, celebrated the party’s success with a rendition of a classic Mohammad Rafi song.

BJP Poised for Hat-Trick

On Tuesday, as the BJP appeared set to achieve its largest win yet in Haryana, Anil Vij sang “Mein zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya,” originally from a 1961 Dev Anand film, during a media interaction. At the time, Vij was trailing behind Independent candidate Chitra Sarwara by 1,199 votes in the Ambala Cantt constituency.

Commenting on the earlier celebrations by the Congress party, which had briefly led in the election results, Vij remarked, “Within the Congress, there are people who want (Bhupinder Singh) Hooda to lose, and they were the ones who were bursting crackers.”

Election Results and Voter Turnout

The BJP is on track to secure its biggest tally in Haryana’s history, while the Congress, after early optimism, has slipped to second place and appears unlikely to regain its lead. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has failed to win any seats according to Election Commission figures.

The elections for Haryana’s 90 constituencies, held on October 5, saw a voter turnout of 67.90%. This election marked the first direct contest between the BJP and Congress since the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, which had seen an opposition resurgence. The anticipated outcome in Haryana is expected to bolster the BJP ahead of upcoming elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi.
