External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar paid a visit to the Kuwait Embassy in Delhi on Monday morning to express condolences and pay respects following the death of Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. In a social media post, Minister Jaishankar expressed India’s heartfelt condolences and emphasized the late Emir’s significant contributions to strengthening bilateral ties.

As a show of solidarity, Jaishankar signed the Embassy’s official condolence book, expressing India’s condolences to the Embassy staff. He emphasized the late Emir’s significant role in fostering cooperation and understanding between India and Kuwait.

The demise of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has prompted widespread mourning, not only within Kuwait but also globally. The Indian government declared state mourning on Sunday, with the tricolor flown at half-mast at all Indian diplomatic establishments worldwide. Official entertainment activities were cancelled as a mark of respect.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sadness over the Emir’s passing, conveying condolences to the royal family, leadership, and people of Kuwait. The late Emir, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, aged 86, was laid to rest in a private ceremony on Sunday. A prayer ritual and burial procession, attended by the royal family, were broadcasted on state television.
