Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu conducted a teleconference on Wednesday with ministers, district collectors, and senior officials to assess the ongoing flood situation and coordinate relief efforts across the state. During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that assistance reaches every household affected by the floods.
“We are implementing extensive relief measures in the flood-affected areas to restore normalcy. The assistance should reach every household. Identify those who have lost their lives in the floods and ensure their families receive the bodies. If no relatives come forward, the government will take responsibility for performing the last rites,” stated CM Naidu.
The Chief Minister announced that the state government plans to provide compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of the deceased. With floodwaters beginning to recede, CM Naidu noted the possibility of door-to-door delivery of essential supplies, including food, water, biscuits, and milk, to those in need.
He further instructed officials to distribute relief packages consisting of 25 kg of rice, 1 litre of palm oil, 2 kg of onions, 2 kg of potatoes, and 1 kg of sugar to each family. Additionally, the government plans to set up mobile Rythu Bazaars to prevent black marketing and ensure that vegetables are sold at reasonable prices.
Given the potential outbreak of viral fevers and mosquito-borne diseases following the floods, CM Naidu directed officials to educate the public on necessary precautions and establish medical camps in every secretariat. “Ensure all ambulances are fully operational and conduct sanitation work on a war footing. Involve household members in cleaning their homes and distribute pamphlets on preventive measures,” he added.
The government reported that it has distributed 2.3 lakh food packets, 2.5 lakh milk packets, 5 lakh water bottles, and deployed 117 tankers to provide relief to the affected populations. Heavy rainfall has caused widespread destruction, particularly in the Krishna and Guntur districts. In some areas, including Singhnagar and Nandamuri Nagar, floods from the Budameru River submerged entire neighborhoods, forcing nearly two lakh residents to seek refuge on the rooftops of their buildings.
