The Border Security Force (BSF) marked Independence Day at its frontier headquarters in Umpling, Shillong, with a series of events led by Inspector General Harbax Singh Dhillon. The celebrations on Thursday included a flag-hoisting ceremony, a weapon exhibition, and cultural performances, reflecting the patriotic spirit of the day.
The flag was hoisted by IG Dhillon, who extended his heartfelt wishes to the BSF personnel, students, and citizens present at the event. He encouraged the young students to uphold national values and become responsible citizens of India. Dhillon also conveyed his greetings to the people of Meghalaya and BSF personnel deployed at the India-Bangladesh border.
In a gesture of goodwill, sweets were distributed to the personnel guarding the border, fostering a spirit of camaraderie. The BSF also organized a weapon exhibition for local students, giving them an opportunity to learn more about the defense equipment used by the forces.
Adding to the celebrations, students from BSF Schools presented cultural programs, showcasing the nation’s rich heritage and diversity. The performances highlighted the unity and collective spirit of the nation on this significant day.
As part of the larger ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ was held in Shillong on the eve of Independence Day, organized by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). CRPF personnel marched through the streets, waving the national flag and singing patriotic songs, promoting the initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage citizens to display the tricolour at their homes.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign also saw participation from the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), which flagged off a Tiranga bike rally in Shimla, and the BSF in Krishnanagar, West Bengal, which organized a similar rally. BSF DIG Sanjay Kumar emphasized the importance of instilling national pride and unity through these activities, encouraging citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes on Independence Day.
