New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old woman pursuing Biotechnology in Bengaluru was allegedly sexually assaulted by her employer’s friend at a café in Madiwala on May 12.

The situation worsened when the survivor, along with her two male friends, approached the Madiwala police. A sub-inspector allegedly asked her whether she was a virgin and told her that a medical examination would not prove sexual assault if she was not.

Meanwhile, the accused, Hainas, who allegedly has local clout, reportedly asked a local goon to threaten the survivor and her friends and force them to withdraw the complaint. The survivor and her friends allegedly went through a harrowing time, with the police doing little and instead supporting the accused and his associates.

Fearing assault, they agreed to a compromise at the police station. The police allegedly took written letters from both sides and let them go.

On the night of May 14, when the survivor and her two friends were staying at a hotel in Madiwala, Hainas, along with the goon and his associates, allegedly barged into their room and assaulted them. They were also threatened and told to leave Bengaluru and return to their hometown in Kerala.

The next day, the survivor and her friends approached a women’s organisation, which connected them with a senior police officer. The officer then directed the Madiwala police to take up the complaint and register a case.

Hainas has been booked for rape and assault, while the goon, identified as Suresh, and nine others have been booked for assault with dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation. Police have formed teams to nab the accused.

In her complaint, the survivor stated that she is a student who also works part-time at a café named Momo Bristo. On the intervening night of May 11 and 12, the survivor, her employer Amal, and two of his friends, including Hainas, were partying at the café. Around 12.30 am, Amal and one of his friends went out to buy food, leaving Hainas alone with the survivor.

According to the complaint, Hainas took advantage of the situation and forced himself on her after stripping her. The survivor was crying when Amal and his friend returned. Hainas then allegedly threatened all three with dire consequences if they told anyone or approached the police.

Although they initially told Hainas they would not complain, they decided to approach the police the next day and file a complaint.
