Atishi Takes Oath As Delhi’s New CM With 5-Minister Cabinet, Ushering In A New Era After Kejriwal’s Exit

Delhi’s political landscape has seen a significant shift as President Droupadi Murmu officially accepted Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation and appointed Atishi as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. This comes after Kejriwal, embroiled in the liquor policy case, was granted bail by the Supreme Court last Friday.

Kejriwal Steps Down Amid Legal Trouble

After being granted bail, Arvind Kejriwal announced his decision to step down as Chief Minister, giving himself 48 hours to resign. Kejriwal’s decision follows increasing pressure from the liquor policy scam case, a scandal that has drawn national attention. On September 17, his resignation was formalized, marking the end of his tenure as Delhi’s CM.

Atishi’s Rise to Power

Atishi, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a trusted ally of Kejriwal, was quickly approved as his successor. Known for her work as a former cabinet minister, Atishi has gained a reputation for her leadership and policy expertise. Following a legislative party meeting, she was officially nominated to become the third woman to hold the position of Chief Minister in Delhi, after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

Swearing-In Ceremony and New Cabinet

The swearing-in ceremony for Atishi is scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 PM in Delhi. Alongside Atishi, five other ministers—Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat—will also take their oaths and join her in forming the new Delhi cabinet.

Looking Ahead: AAP’s Next Move

As Atishi prepares to take on her new role, the Aam Aadmi Party is seeking to hold simultaneous assembly elections in November. This would coincide with the elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, adding further momentum to Delhi’s political developments.

Atishi’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for the AAP, and her leadership will be closely watched as the party navigates the upcoming elections and works to restore its public image.

With her track record and Kejriwal’s backing, Atishi is poised to take on the significant responsibilities of leading the national capital at a crucial time.
