According to reports, Air India has established a new organizational structure for its non-flying employees, who have been awarded new designations and have had their work levels and functions restructured.

It was decided to simplify the positions in order to make them more market-competitive and productivity-oriented. Flying staff, including pilots and cabin crew, were placed in a similar framework in April of this year.

The new framework is part of the company’s plan to alter the previous ad hoc policies. The structural modifications are intended to centre Air India’s operations on performance and productivity.

Suresh Tripathi, CHRO at Air India revealed to the media that “With this move, the creation of a completely new organizational structure is complete and we have shared it in a transparent manner with all our employees to promote a fair and meritorious work culture.
“This will also be an organization focused on consumer centricity. What was being driven by seniority or the number of years spent in service is now being driven by performance, responsibility, and accountability.”

Around 30% of Air India’s overall workforce (15,000) are new personnel who have been appointed during the last eighteen months. Air India increased their workforce by around 5,000 people. This comprised 500 new pilots and 3200 additional cabin crew members. The airline is now hiring for non-flying professions such as operations, HR, finance, ground handling, and so on.
