Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Monday launched 10 digital health initiatives, including Aarogya Setu 2.0, in a major push to strengthen India’s digital healthcare ecosystem and improve access to citizen-centric health services.
The initiatives include Aarogya Setu 2.0, e-Sushrut@Clinic, Ayushman App, Ayushman Sarathi WhatsApp Chatbot, National Health Claims Exchange, Insurance Plan FHIR Object Creator, Unified Health Interface, Drug Registry, Common LOINC Codes for India and Bharat Health Terminology Service.
Developed under the National Health Authority and the National Resource Centre for EHR Standards, the platforms aim to improve accessibility, efficiency and continuity of care while enabling seamless exchange of health information across the healthcare system.
Calling the launch a “powerful upgrade” to India’s digital health ecosystem, Nadda said Aarogya Setu 2.0 integrates ABHA profiles, digital health records, PM-JAY services and emergency hospital access into one secure application.
According to the Health Ministry, Aarogya Setu 2.0 will function as a national health app and a single digital gateway for citizens to access Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission-enabled services. It will also serve as a personal health record system for individuals and families, allowing users to store and manage medical records, prescriptions, lab reports and key health parameters such as blood sugar, blood pressure, heart rate and other vital indicators.
The upgraded app will allow users to create ABHA accounts, manage digital health records, use Scan & Share for paperless registration at healthcare facilities and access AI-enabled digitisation of medical documents. It will also offer personalised health dashboards, medication reminders and health monitoring tools, with support for wearable devices to track steps, calories, heart rate and glucose levels.
Aarogya Setu 2.0 will also provide financial transparency through PM-JAY Wallet, showing healthcare coverage, balance, utilisation and family-wise consumption under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY. It will integrate details for CAPF beneficiaries and private insurance users, including policy information, claims and reimbursements.
The app will help users locate nearby hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres and doctors within a 5 to 50 km radius. It will also allow them to check real-time blood availability through e-RaktKosh, book ambulances and search for PM-JAY empanelled hospitals for cashless treatment.
A key feature, “My Consent”, will give users control over how their health data is shared. Citizens will be able to approve, deny, track or revoke consent requests, ensuring that medical information is shared only with explicit permission.
The Health Ministry said e-Sushrut@Clinic will support small clinics with an affordable government-backed health management information system, while the Unified Health Interface will enable patients and healthcare providers to connect across different digital platforms without being tied to a single application.
