16-Year-Old Driver Injures Five In Shahdara Car Accident

Five individuals sustained injuries after being hit by a car driven by a 16-year-old boy in Shahdara’s Jagatpuri area on Saturday. The police apprehended the minor, who is the son of a businessman, and seized the vehicle. They also intend to charge his father, who owns the car. The injured were taken to the hospital, all with minor injuries.

Police reported receiving information about the incident near the Geeta Colony police station around 8 am. Local officers apprehended the boy at the scene. Investigations revealed that he was returning home with two friends after breakfast in Krishna Nagar. Around 7:40 am, the car collided with a cart vendor near Karkardooma Court. The boy explained to the police that when the vendor shouted at him, he panicked and lost control of the vehicle, resulting in him hitting a woman sweeper and subsequently striking three more pedestrians.

The boy’s father owns a shop in Sadar Bazar. Sources indicated that the minor had left school to help his father with the business. The boy has been charged under various sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicle Act, including “rash driving or riding on a public way” and “causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others.” An officer mentioned that the father might also face charges for allowing the minor to drive without a license.

This incident is reminiscent of a case in Pune from May, where a minor driving a Porsche collided with a bike in Kalyani Nagar, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals. Similarly, in March, a 17-year-old boy drove into shoppers at Mayur Vihar in east Delhi, killing a 22-year-old woman named Sheetal and injuring nine others. She was grocery shopping when she was fatally struck by the car.
