Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi is set to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday in connection with the National Herald case.
With this Congress set to protest across the national capital against the BJP-led government. The Delhi police have already made elaborate arrangements and barricaded Akbar Road as the party headquarters is located at 24, Akbar Road.
“Kindly avoid Motilal Nehru Marg, Akbar Road, Janpath and Man Singh Road between 0900 hrs and 1400 hrs on 21.07.22. Due to special arrangements, traffic movement will not be possible on these roads,” read an official statement.
According to the official sources, Sonia Gandhi has been asked to appear at the headquarters at around 11 am on Thursday.
Moreover, Congress is preparing to protest in Delhi as well as in other states. Senior Congress leaders will gather at the AICC office to show solidarity with Sonia Gandhi. After this, everyone will go to the ED office. Congress leader and former MP PL Punia said that the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament will be adjourned on Thursday and after that, all Congress MPs will gather at Pant Marg near Gurdwara Rakabganj and reach the Congress headquarters together from there.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, other senior party leaders, and MPs are already present in Delhi. They held a meeting at Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s house on July 20.
Earlier on June 1, the ED summoned Sonia Gandhi to appear on June 8 for the first time in a money laundering case involving the National Herald but due to COVID-19, she didn’t appear. The Congress leader developed a mild fever on the evening of June 1 and was tested COVID-19 positive the next morning June 2.
