Bhupinder Singh, (Timmy Chawla), was killed on Wednesday for failing to pay Rs 30 Lakh as extortion money in Nakodar. The incident also resulted in injuries to Bhupinder Singh’s gunman who was Punjab Police personnel. Later, he also succumbed to injuries.
After the death of the gunman, CM Bhagwant Mann tweeted, “Salute to martyr constable Mandeep Singh who has made the supreme sacrifice in line of duty. Punjab government will make an extra-gratia payment of Rs 1 crores. Another Rs 1 crore insurance payment will be made by HDFC Bank.”
Mandeep Singh has been recognized as the injured gunman. Police said that Bhupinder Singh was shot at by four assailants who arrived on two-wheelers.
Bhupinder Singh, a deceased cloth merchant, had been receiving calls from gangsters asking him for Rs 30 lakhs as protection money for the previous two months.
The victim reported the calls to the police and the civil administration, and he even provided the phone numbers from which he received the threats. He had been given a gunman to keep him safe.
