Chandrapur district in Maharashtra has been grappling with a severe outbreak of yellow mosaic disease, wreaking havoc on soybean crops that were sown across 67,766 hectares of farmland. Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, representing the Ballarpur constituency in the region, has implored Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to announce a special package for soybean farmers afflicted by this agricultural crisis.
The yellow mosaic virus struck soybean crops in August, diminishing yields and threatening the livelihoods of countless farmers. In response, Minister Mungantiwar conducted extensive visits to affected villages, engaging with soybean cultivators to better understand the devastating impact of this viral outbreak. Subsequently, he penned a letter to Chief Minister Shinde and Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde, appealing for a dedicated relief package to aid the distressed soybean farmers.
Yellow mosaic disease can inflict serious damage on soybean plants, leading to stunted growth, reduced seed size, and fewer pods per plant.
