India’s Longest Sea Bridge, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), is set to connect Mumbai with its satellite city, Navi Mumbai–Raigad, reducing travel time by 40 minutes. Officially named the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link, the 21.8 km under-construction bridge is scheduled to open for public use on December 25, 2023.
With a 16 km stretch over the sea, the MTHL will significantly cut travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to just 20 minutes, compared to the current one-hour journey through the Vashi Bridge. Beyond enhancing local connectivity, the bridge will provide faster access to major routes like the Mumbai-Goa highway, Mumbai-Pune expressway, Navi Mumbai International Airport, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) port.
To streamline traffic flow, the bridge will feature an advanced Open Road Tolling (ORT) system.
