The Parksite Police have detained a minor in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 30-year-old woman, a constable assigned to the Local Arms Unit. The victim, a Vikhroli resident, was en route to her uncle’s residence for dinner in the company of her cousin and a friend when an unidentified individual approached her from behind and committed a sexual assault. Promptly, her friend and cousin restrained the assailant, but two men on a motorcycle intervened. They confronted the accused, administered a reprimand, and instructed him to leave immediately.
Subsequent to the incident, the woman registered a complaint against the unknown assailant, triggering a police response. DCP (Zone 7) Purushottam Karad disclosed that special teams were formed to apprehend the offender, and the suspect was identified through surveillance footage from a nearby CCTV camera. Based on the CCTV footage, the police apprehended a minor residing in Vikhroli the following day, and he has been charged under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, the incident gained attention on social media, with claims circulating that the perpetrator was part of an Eid procession. Consequently, Hindu organizations staged protests on Saturday morning, demanding the culprit’s arrest. As a precautionary measure, extra personnel from the local arms division, Riot Control Force, and Home Guard were deployed at sensitive locations in Vikhroli West. At the time of this report, the police have also located the two men on the motorcycle, implicating them as co-accused in the case.
