A 45-year-old assistant director based in Mumbai, working on a web series, has lodged a complaint against an unknown woman and accomplices for allegedly engaging in a financial extortion scheme. The incident unfolded after the victim befriended a woman on a dating site, leading to intimate conversations and a subsequent threat to expose their interactions.
The Mumbai police initiated an FIR on Tuesday, indicating that they are actively investigating the case. According to the complainant, he connected with the woman on a dating website on December 13, engaging in frequent conversations.
During one intimate exchange, the woman undressed and convinced the assistant director to do the same while surreptitiously recording the call without his knowledge, as detailed in the police complaint.
Subsequently, the complainant received video clips of his conversation with the unclothed woman from two unknown numbers. The senders demanded Rs 75,000, threatening to publicly share the video clips if the payment was not made. The victim, apprehensive about the potential exposure, transferred Rs 35,000 to a specified bank account.
However, the extortionists persisted in demanding more money, prompting the complainant to seek police intervention.
An official stated that a case has been registered against the unknown woman and accomplices under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including extortion, criminal intimidation, and common intention.
