A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Mumbai’s Versova Beach, where a speeding SUV ran over two men who were sleeping on the beach, resulting in one fatality and leaving the other critically injured.
The SUV driver, Nikhil Jawle, 34, and his friend Shubham Dongre, 33, have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident. The victims, identified as Ganesh Yadav, a 36-year-old rickshaw driver, and his friend Bablu Srivastava, were sleeping on the beach to escape the heat when the tragedy struck.
According to police reports, Bablu was jolted awake by a loud noise and saw the white SUV crushing Ganesh. The two men in the vehicle reportedly got out and attempted to revive Ganesh but fled the scene when they realized the severity of the accident.
Both victims were rushed to Cooper Hospital, where Ganesh succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Jawle and Dongre have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and were presented before a local court, which remanded them to five days in judicial custody. The police are testing their blood samples for alcohol.
This incident follows a similar tragic accident in July when a woman died, and her husband was injured after a luxury BMW sedan collided with their two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area.
