Residents of a housing society in Maharashtra’s Thane district raised concerns on Tuesday about a family bringing two goats into their home ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, or Bakrid, and the police registered a case on Wednesday against 11 people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for bringing goats meant for sacrifice on Bakrid inside the society.
The incident occurred on Monday night at Vinay Nagar Society on Mira Road in JP North. Following the incident, police arrived at the society when members protested outside on Tuesday. A Station House Officer (SHO) at Mira Road police station told news agency PTI that officers spoke with residents and attempted to appease them.
A man and a woman can be seen taking two goats from their house’s lift in a viral video from the society’s CCTV. Residents can be seen shouting outside the society where the police have arrived in another video.

One of the residents revealed that, “We are just saying that all societies have decided to not allow goats inside the building. Despite that, they went against everyone, didn’t seek permission from the police or the society and broke the bylaws to bring the goat inside the building. We request to take the goat away and defuse the matter right away.”
According to the residents, no one was injured in the commotion outside the society on Tuesday night. However, they claimed that some women were subjected to slurs.
