In celebration of the Navratri festival, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to extend the operating hours of metro rail services on lines 2A and 7, connecting Andheri and Dahisar in north-western Mumbai. This extension, effective from October 19 to 23, will see the metro services continue until 12:20 am, compared to the previous closing time of 10:30 pm.
As part of this new arrangement, the last trains on these lines will now depart at 12:20 am and reach their destinations by 1:33 am, offering an additional 14 trips to the schedule with a 15-minute interval between each train.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has approved an increased number of trips on weekdays, with a total of 267, while Saturday and Sunday schedules will feature 252 and 219 trips, respectively. This decision aims to enhance commuter comfort during the Navratri festival, particularly in response to the heightened demand for late-night travel options. Chief Minister Shinde emphasized that this extension is expected to provide much-needed relief to the public, especially those attending the widespread ‘garba’ events and celebrations during Navratri.
