Local trains in Mumbai resumed their services on Monday after a gap of twoand-a-half months. Only essential service providers identified by the state government are allowed to commute by these trains. They will be given an e-pass which will have their picture, name, designation, office railway station, residence railway station and mobile number.
Train service will be used by 1.25 lakh state government staff working in essential services and run from 5.30 am to 11.30 pm with an interval of approx 15 minutes. These will run as fast local trains over western, central and harbour railway. Western Railway (WR) runs over 120 trains whereas Central Railway (CR) runs over 200 trains.
The CR runs 200 train services on its main line, between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Thane, Kalyan, Karjat and Kasara and the Harbour line, CSMT and Panvel. The WR will run 73 pairs of suburban services including eight pairs between Virar and Dahanu Road.
