Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will temporarily suspend flight operations for six hours on October 17, 2023, to facilitate essential maintenance work on both of its runways.
As part of a comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan, one of the nation’s busiest airports will close runways RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, according to the airport operator’s official statement.
Six months ago, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued to airlines and other stakeholders to notify them of this planned closure, the CSMIA confirmed. The airport’s main goal for this scheduled interruption is to conduct repair and maintenance activities necessary to maintain the airport’s infrastructure at the highest standards, as per the CSMIA.
The airport emphasized that this annual practice of post-monsoon runway maintenance is part of a precisely executed series of activities designed to ensure operational continuity and passenger safety. This underscores the airport’s commitment to a “passenger-first approach” at the core of its operations.
