Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai achieved an extraordinary feat in November 2023, surpassing all expectations with a remarkable 109% recovery in passenger traffic compared to the pre-pandemic levels of November 2018.
November 2023 saw a staggering 4.46 million passengers travel through CSMIA, showcasing the airport’s resilience and solidifying its status as a pivotal travel hub. This figure surpassed the 4.09 million passengers recorded in November 2018.
The highest daily passenger traffic for the month occurred on November 25, 2023, with 167,132 passengers traversing through CSMIA. This included over 120,000 domestic passenger movements and more than 46,000 international passengers.
November 11, 2023, marked a significant milestone for CSMIA, achieving its highest-ever single-day Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) with a total of 1,032 ATMs.
Furthermore, the airport witnessed its highest-ever monthly traffic in November 2023, reaching an impressive 4.46 million passengers, reflecting a 13% growth compared to November 2022 (3.9 million).
The domestic sector experienced robust growth, with an astounding three million passengers traveling within the month. November 2023 also recorded a total of 28,679 ATMs, reflecting a 12% growth compared to November 2022 (25,375), including approximately 20,000+ domestic and 7,000+ international ATMs.
CSMIA’s top domestic destinations in November 2023 were Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai, while Dubai, London, and Abu Dhabi remained popular choices for international travel. The Mumbai–Delhi route alone witnessed substantial traffic, with 557,393 passengers.
IndiGo, Vistara, and Air India dominated the domestic market share, with IndiGo serving over 1.6 million domestic passengers. In the international sector, IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates maintained their leading positions.
A CSMIA spokesperson highlighted the airport’s commitment to expanding international connectivity, with recent services to destinations like Entebbe, Baku, Bangkok, and Toronto enriching the diverse travel network.
