The Mumbai airport has scheduled a temporary closure of both runways for six hours on October 17 to facilitate essential maintenance works. During this period, all flight operations will be suspended. The maintenance activities will be conducted from 11 am to 5 pm, as announced by the airport operator.
In adherence to standard aviation protocols, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued six months in advance to notify airlines and other stakeholders about this planned runway maintenance.
The statement from the airport operator explained, “As part of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s (CSMIA) comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan, both runways – RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32 – will be temporarily non-operational on October 17 from 1100 hours to 1700 hours.”
This temporary closure aligns with CSMIA’s annual post-monsoon preventive maintenance plan, aimed at ensuring the continued safety and efficiency of airport operations.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is the second busiest airport in India, following Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. It boasts two intersecting runways, namely RWY 09/27 (the primary runway) and RWY 14/32 (the secondary runway).
