High blood pressure, or hypertension, is often called a “silent killer” because it can develop with few obvious symptoms until it reaches a critical stage. Recognizing subtle signs, especially in the morning, can help in early detection and management of this condition.

Dr Sameer V Pagad who is a Senior Consultant-Interventional Cardiologist at Gleneagles Hospitals, Parel, explains the importance of knowing how to determine morning blood pressure.

“Our blood pressure naturally fluctuates throughout the day. However, consistently high readings upon waking, a condition known as morning hypertension, can be a cause for concern,” he said.

Key Warning Signs

One of the best ways to detect high blood pressure early is by paying attention to subtle signs, especially those that might manifest in the morning. Here are five key warning signs of high blood pressure that you may notice upon waking, which can help in early identification and management of this potentially dangerous condition:

Constant Morning Headaches: High blood pressure causes headaches. Increased blood pressure leads to straining blood vessels.

Nosebleed: Blood vessels in nose are prone to rupture cause of high blood pressure.

Persistent fatigue: Feeling drained in the morning is often a sign of high blood pressure

Restlessness: Difficulty in being at ease and not being able to relax

Dizziness: Feeling dizzy in the morning can also be a symptom
