The employees at Central Jail Number 10 discovered on Monday that something had been thrown inside the facility. Two juice containers contained the suspicious items in close quarters. A top officer reported that when the packet was opened, 10 mobile phones, four data cables, and 75 grams of tobacco were found. Further probe revealed that the packets were thrown from outside the jail, they said.
The matter has been reported to the police for further investigation, they added.
Prison guards seized 23 surgical blades, drugs, two cellphones, and a SIM card from an inmate’s possession in Tihar’s Central Jail number 3 on 9 March.
Delhi has three prison complexes — Tihar, Rohini and Mandoli. All of these comprise central jails. Further investigation showed that the said packets were thrown over the wall from outside the jail and into the building.
The jail official added that the police had been notified of the situation in order to conduct a more thorough investigation and take any required legal action.
