Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra have initiated an investigation into a harrowing case of sexual assault involving a 17-year-old girl. The girl, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly repeatedly raped and is now 34 weeks pregnant. Her ordeal came to light when she visited her brother in Kopar Khairane, Navi Mumbai, and sought medical assistance.
The girl’s brother lodged a formal complaint, prompting the police to register a case under Section 376 (rape) and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to the complaint, the young victim, a resident of Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was subjected to multiple instances of sexual assault sometime before April.
The Navi Mumbai police have since transferred the case to the Siddharthnagar police station for further investigation.
In a separate incident in Navi Mumbai, another teenager accused her stepfather of sexually assaulting her over a two-year period. The police have registered a case against the 35-year-old stepfather from Vashi. The 15-year-old victim approached the APMC Police Station in Vashi and reported that she had endured repeated sexual abuse, physical violence, and threats from her stepfather between October 2021 and October 2023.
